The Champlain Cavaliers Cross-Country Running team added to their accolades as they won the Women’s, Men’s and Combined team titles at the 2021 RSEQ Sud-Ouest Conference championships in Blainville on October 17th. It’s the first time that the Cavaliers have won both team gold medals the same year, and the 3rd consecutive combined titled for the Cavs. Since the teams inception in 2007, the Cavaliers have taken gold on the women’s side three times, and it’s the fourth title for the men. The Cavaliers have dominated the Combined Team event, which has been won by the Cavaliers in ever year since its inception in 2018.
In addition to the team successes, Champlain had, again for the first time in their history, two individual gold medalists at the Championships as Emma Veilleux and Xavier Lemaître won their races. Emma posted a time of 24:28 in her 6k race, whilc Xavier finished the Men’s 8k race in a time of 27:15. Emma is the 5th Cavalier to win conference gold and Xavier is the first man to ever win an individual gold for Champlain in this Championship!
The Cavaliers will now prep for the Provincial Championships in Quebec City on October 30 and strive for a top finish by their teams in hopes of gaining a berth to the 2021 CCAA Cross-Country Nationals, hosted by St. Mary’s University in Calgary, Alberta in mid-November.
