The RSEQ’s has announced this year’s D1 All-Stars and annual award winners for the 2021-22 season in the D1 basketball leagues, and the Cavaliers are pleased to congratulate this year’s recipients from the women’s and men’s teams!
The 2021-22 All-Stars from D1 Basketball are:
- Chloe Oliver (1st Team All-Star | Women’s Women’s Basketball)
- Sauda Issa Ntaconayigize (1st Team All-Star | Women’s Basketball)
- Fatima Diop (Academic All-Star | Women’s Basketball)
- Yve Nsanzinshuti (Academic All-Star | Men’s Basketball)
In addition, annual awards for Team Sportsmanship & Fairplay, Player/Coach/Rookie and Student-Athlete of the Year are also awarded, as voted on by the members of the league. The recipients from the Cavaliers for 2021-22 are:
2021-22 RSEQ Coach of the Year | Women’s Basketball – Georges Germanos
Congrats to Head Coach Georges Germanos on being selected as the RSEQ’s Coach of the Year in Women’s basketball, his first time being awarded this prize. He led the Cavaliers to their first 1st place finish in the regular season (11-1) and their first-ever provincial championship. The Cavaliers were a top-5 team in CCAA standings for most of the year and the team finished 4th at this year’s CCAA National Championships. Germanos has helmed the Cavaliers program since 2003 and was instrumental in bringing the team into the AAA/D1 league in 2007. Since the 2014-15 season, the team has medaled at the RSEQ provincials 4 times with 2 bronze, 1 silver, and now a gold added to the collection.
2021-22 RSEQ Rookie of the Year | Women’s Basketball – Caitlin Frost
With an average of 8.2 points/game, 66 rebounds, 8 blocks and 18 steals, first-year student-athlete Caitlin Frost was voted this year’s Rookie of the Year in the RSEQ D1 Women’s Basketball league. The 6’2″ forward, who is studying in Health Sciences, hails from Les Coteaux and made an impact on the league in her freshman season, helping the Cavaliers to an 11-1 record and their first provincial title. The season also saw Caitlin and the Cavaliers gain experience at the national level. as she was not only named player of the game in the Cavaliers’ win over Okanagan College, she was also selected as a 2nd Team Tournament All-Star for the Championship!
2021-22 RSEQ Sportsmanship & Fairplay Award | Men’s Basketball – Champlain Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have been awarded the 2021-22 Sportsmanship and Fair-Play Award for D1 Men’s Basketball. This award is based on the team’s conduct throughout the season and a vote by the coaches in the league. This is the 3rd time that the Cavaliers have been presented this award since 2010, demonstrating that you can play hard while maintaining the values of sportsmanship and fairness.
